    L'image de la Suisse à l'étranger

    Get PDF

Two generalizations of the PRV conjecture

Let G be a complex connected reductive group. The PRV conjecture, which was proved independently by S. Kumar and O. Mathieu in 1989, gives explicit irreducible submodules of the tensor product of two irreducible G-modules. This paper has three aims. First, we simplify the proof of the PRV conjecture, then we generalize it to other branching problems. Finally, we find other irreducible components of the tensor product of two irreducible G-modules that appear for "the same reason" as the PRV ones

    A Classically Singular Representation of suq(n) su_q(n)

A \rep of \sun, which diverges in the limit of \cl, is investigated. This is an infinite dimensional and a non-unitary \rep, defined for the real value of q, 0<q<1. q, \ 0 < q < 1. Each \irrep is specified by n n continuous variables and one discrete variable. This \rep gives a new solution of the Yang-Baxter equation, when the R-matrix is evaluated. It is shown that a continuous variables can be regarded as a spectral parameter.Comment: 8 pages, phyzzx, RCNP - 05

Photochromism, Electrical Properties, and Structural Investigations of a Series of Hydrated Methylviologen Halobismuthate Hybrids: Influence of the Anionic Oligomer Size and Iodide Doping on the Photoinduced Properties and on the Dehydration Process

Syntheses, X-ray structural analyses, thermal behaviors, photochromism, and electrical properties of a series of methylviologen (MV2+) halobismuthate hybrids, namely, (MV)3[Bi4Cl18](H2O)y (1a, y~1.7), (MV)4[Bi6Cl26](H2O)y (2a, y~1.7), (MV)4[Bi6Cl25.6I0.4](H2O)y (3a, y~1.5), and (MV)4[Bi6Cl24.6I1.4](H2O)y (4a, y~1.3), are reported. Because of the thermal effect of a UV lamp or as a result of being heated up to 100 °C, all of the above compounds undergo a complete (1a, 2a, and 3a) or a partial (4a) dehydration together, in 2a and 3a, with an impressive structural reorganization involving a 90° rotation of methylviologen dimers and, in 3a, a new Cl/I distribution, finally leading to (MV)3[Bi4Cl18] (1b), (MV)4[Bi6Cl26] (2b), (MV)4[Bi6Cl25.6I0.4] (3b), and (MV)4[Bi6Cl24.6I1.4](H2O)x (4a, x ~ 0.65), respectively. In its turn, 4a (x ~ 0.65) undergoes an abrupt structural change at 160 °C when water molecules are completely removed, leading to (MV)4[Bi6Cl24.6I1.4] (4b). Obviously, the two first dehydrated phases can be considered as the n = 2 (1b) and n = 3 (2b) members of the (MV)(2n+2)/2[Bi2nCl8n+2] family, and the ultimate member (n = ∞) with an infinite 1D double-chain inorganic framework, namely, (MV)[Bi2Cl8], has already been reported. According to the results of structural refinements, some positions of the Cl atoms in the [Bi6Cl26]8− anionic cluster of 3a and 4a have been occupied by I atoms, finally leading to iodide-doped materials of the 2a type (percentage of doping: 3a, 1.5%; 4a, 5.4%). Upon UV irradiation, yellow crystals of 2a and 3a (which become 2b and 3b because of the thermal effect of the UV lamp) or yellow crystals of 2b, 3b, and 4a undergo a color change to black crystals (in the case of 2b), as observed in (MV)[Bi2Cl8], or light-brown crystals (in the cases of 3b and 4a). These photochromic properties are probably due to the photoinduced electron transfer from the anionic part to the methylviologen dications. In contrast, no color change is observed when yellow crystals of 1a or 1b and the iodide-doped (MV)[Bi2Cl8−εIε] material are irradiated. Because the relative positions of methylviologen to the host anionic frameworks are comparable in all structures (the N···Cl distances are about 3.4 Å), these results indicate that such kinds of photochemical reactions depend on the dimension of the anionic networks, as well as the iodide doping. The single-crystal electrical conductivity measurements of 2b before and after irradiation were carried out between 150 and 393 K. The results prove that both of them are semiconductors with weak room temperature conductivity and that the band gap of the irradiated crystal (2b, 0.35 eV) is much smaller than that of the original hybrid 2a (1.0 eV)

Interaction between static holes in a quantum dimer model on the kagome lattice

A quantum dimer model (QDM) on the kagome lattice with an extensive ground-state entropy was recently introduced [Phys. Rev. B 67, 214413 (2003)]. The ground-state energy of this QDM in presence of one and two static holes is investigated by means of exact diagonalizations on lattices containing up to 144 kagome sites. The interaction energy between the holes (at distances up to 7 lattice spacings) is evaluated and the results show no indication of confinement at large hole separations.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures. The motley family of polar compounds (MV) M(X5-xX (x)) based on anionic chains of trans-connected M-(III)(X,X)(6) octahedra (M=Bi, Sb; X, X=Cl, Br, I) and methylviologen (MV) dications

The search for hybrid organic-inorganic materials remains a great challenge in the field of ferroelectrics. Following the discovery of the room temperature ferroelectric material (MV)[BiI3Cl2] (MV2+: methyl-viologen) exhibiting the highest polarization value in the field of hybrid ferroelectrics, we report here nine new hybrids with the general formulation (MV)[(MX5-xX)-X-(III)(x)] (M=Bi, Sb; X, X=CI, Br, I): (MV)[BiCl3.3Br1.7] (1), (MV)[BiCl1.3Br3.7] (2), (MV)[BiBr3.2I1.8] (3), (MV)[SbCl5] (4), (MV)[SbBr5] (5), (MV)[SbCl3.8Br1.2] (6). (MV)[SbCl2.4Br2.6] (7), (MV)[SbI3Cl2] (8) and (MV)[SbBr3.8I1.2] (9). Depending on the presence of polar chains or not, and on the coupling of polar chains, two types of centrosymmetrical structures [C1] and [C2] and two types of polar structures [P1] and [P2] are defined. (2) undergoes a paraelectric-to-relaxor ferroelectric transition around 100-150 K depending of the frequency showing that the Curie temperature, T-C, of (MV)[BiBr5] (243 K) can be modulated by the substitution of Br by Cl. The most interesting family is the [P2] type because the syn coupling of polar chains is in favor of high polarization values, as in (MV)[BiI3Cl2]. Five of the nine new hybrids, (4), (6-9), which have the [P2] type structure are potential ferroelectrics. (C) 2012 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

The BCS theory of q-deformed nucleon pairs - qBCS

We construct a coherent state of q-deformed zero coupled nucleon pairs distributed in several single-particle orbits. Using a variational approach, the set of equations of qBCS theory, to be solved self consistently for occupation probabilities, gap parameter Delta, and the chemical potential lambda, is obtained. Results for valence nucleons in nuclear degenerate sdg major shell show that the strongly coupled zero angular momentum nucleon pairs can be substituted by weakly coupled q-deformed zero angular momentum nucleon pairs. A study of Sn isotopes reveals a well defined universe of (G, q) values, for which qBCS converges. While the qBCS and BCS show similar results for Gap parameter Delta in Sn isotopes, the ground state energies are lower in qBCS. The pairing correlations in N nucleon system, increase with increasing q (for q real).Comment: 8 pages, REVTEX, 3 eps figure

Outcome prediction for hypothermic patients in cardiac arrest.

The 5A score predicts in-hospital mortality of patients suffering from accidental hypothermia, including those not in cardiac arrest. The HOPE score was specifically developed to predict survival for the subgroup of hypothermic patients in cardiac considered for extracorporeal life support rewarming. The C-statistic in the external validation study of the HOPE score was 0.825 (95% CI: 0.753-0.897), confirming its excellent discrimination. In addition, its good calibration allows for a reliable interpretation of the corresponding survival probability after rewarming. The HOPE score should be used for predicting outcome and selecting hypothermic patients in cardiac arrest for rewarming
